Most of the Karez Wells spread in Turpan in Xinjiang. It is a drinking water project which is hand-dug. It is one of the China ancient projects the same as the Great Wall and Grand Canal of China. There are thousands of wells in Turpan and it is about 5000km. There are four parts in Karez structure: silo, underground tunnel, ground tunnel and a small tank. Generally, the principle of the structure of the Karez is the snow on Bogeda Mountain and Kelawucheng Mountain melts in spring and summer, so it flows into valleys to Gobi desert. Karez has a long history and it is widely spread. It is one of the main source of water that Turpan people do agricultural production and drink. Because the water is stable and the quality is good, it doesn’t need motive power. The service tool is simple, and it requires low technique. Moreover, the expense is low. It is convenient to manage separately for people. So, it is popular with local people.
