Sanyou Cave is located in the cliff near Changjiang River which is about 7 kilometers from Yichang in Hubei. It has been listed into the 6th batch of the National key cultural relics protection units on May 25, 2006. It is said that in 819, three famous men of letters, Bai Juyi, Bai Xingjian, and Yuan Zhen met here and visited the cave together, and they all composed poems for the cave. In particular, Bai Juyi wrote his poem preface to sanyou cave on the wall, hence the name Sanyou Cave. Because of its gorgeous and peculiar scenery, Sanyou Cave has been called "dreamland" by former people.There are regualr script, official script, running script, and other scripts, poems, essays, wall painting, subject notes and other art forms. Up to now, there are still well-kept relics like the subject note written by Ouyang Xiu, recarved Preface to Sanyou Cave in Ming Dynasty, and other epigraphy, which are about 40 in total. Thus the historic and cultural materials in Sanyou Cave are very rich.
