Dai temple, located in the south of Mount Tai, is the largest and most complete ancient building complex in the area. It was the main place to hold worship ceremony and enshrine “God of Mount Tai” by emperors in ancient times. Dai Temple has a long history with its origin tracing back to Qin Dynasty (211BC ~ 206BC ). Through thousands years of vicissitudes, Dai Temple gradually took the shape of what it is today. The Dai Temple houses various architectural structures including the Tiankuang Hall, the Yaocan Pavilion, the Han Dynasty Cypress Courtyard and so on. The Yaocan Pavilion is the front hall of Dai Temple. When the worship ceremony was held in ancient times, the emperors and ministers needed to pay simple respect here before entering Dai Temple to have the formal one. The Tiankuang Hall is the main structure of the Dai Temple. Outside the hall, various engravings and inscriptions impress tourists deeply and entice them to visit the hall. Standing in front of the hall, one would be amazed by beautifully decorative archways, upturned eaves and carved details. In the hall is enshrined the God of the Mt. Taishan which is about four meters (13 feet) high. In the Han Dynasty Cypress Courtyard stand five valuable old cypress trees which were planted by Emperor Wudi, from the Han Dynasty, and have lived for 2,000 years. Besides those major architectures, there are other must-see attractions of Dai Temple awaiting for you to discover. If you want to see how the old C
hinese emperors worship the “God of Mount. Tai”, you can’t afford to miss Dai Temple.
