Qingdao new airport is located in Jiaozhou, and plans to accomplish the construction within 5 years. However, the original designed 12 million accommodation capacity of Qingdao Liuting International Airport has already been broken last year, and was in a state of overload. 

Yesterday, reporter learned from the Transport Commission that Qingdao government approves 4.8 million to the investment plan of digging and extending the airport ground support capability this year. Under the premise of not demolishment and construction, the support capability of Liuting Airport will be raised to 18-20 million per year to meet the developmental needs before the transition from old airport to the new one, and to support the develop in 5-7years, by particularly optimizing the operation mechanism of runways, adding apron and gates, adjusting functions and layout of terminals and acquiring necessary facilities and equipment. While visiting, the reporter found that the airport digging and extending project had been started, and is planed be finished and put into operation at 30th Oct, 2014. In addition, Qingdao Airport is actively opening new routes. It is hoped to open the Qingdao-Xizang line this year, and add Russia, Australia and Vietnam destinations next year.
