Trip Review : 3rd – 10th August 2013. Guangzhou, Kaiping and Zhongshan
We enjoyed our trip very much. The tour arrangements were carried out very efficiently and we managed to see all the places in the tour itinerary without any rush and at a very comfortable pace, starting out each morning at 9 am. The hotels we selected were very good (clean and comfortable with spacious rooms, and good location) and the breakfast was excellent. We really liked the restaurants that we were taken to for our meals; we enjoyed the food and were delighted to be able to select some of the dishes ourselves. Of course our pleasant and enjoyable experience was made possible by your wonderful guide Ms Rose, who spoke very good English, was very helpful and took good care of us; and also your equally pleasant driver Mr Chong who was very happy to share his local knowledge about places, history and food with us. He was also a very good and careful driver.
Our arrival at Guangzhou was delayed about 2 hours and we missed the lunch. We appreciated very much that Rose replaced the lunch with a dinner that night. Guangzhou is amazing – so large and so many people and yet clean and orderly. It was great to see the beautiful lights of Guangzhou from the Pearl river cruise. We liked the old Qilou and colonial style buildings in the city. Shamian island was particularly beautiful, peaceful and quiet.
Our visit to Zhongshan to see Sun Yat Sen’s birthplace was very interesting. We have read of his inspiring life story and to be able to visit his birthplace was a very memorable experience.
The diaolous in Kaping and the stories behind them were fascinating. It was such a romantic era, signifying courage, adventure, prosperity and grandeur; and we are glad that the structures are to be preserved for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
Overall we are very happy with the tour put together by China Travel Depot.
