This period is also called the China Contemporary Period in history. It is a time from the founding of People’s Republic of China to the present day. From September 21 to 30, 1949, the First Plenum of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held in Beijing.

It elected a Central People's Government Council, with Mao Zedong as Chairman, and appointed Zhou Enlai Premier of the Government Administration Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs. On October 1, 1949, a grand ceremony held in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, symbolizing the establishment of People’s Republic of China.

The early days of New China were a period of economic recovery. The First Five-Year Plan (1953-1957) for the development of the national economy was achieved ahead of schedule, and China established and expanded basic industries necessary for full industrialization. Then, it is a 10 years’ large-scale socialist construction. Outstanding achievements were recorded in many new fields of science and technology. However, during this dynamic decade, serious mistakes were also made in the Party and government’s guidelines.

The Cultural Revolution, which lasted for 10 years from May 1966 to October 1976. Taking advantage of Mao Zedong’s mistakes in his later years, the Lin Biao and Jiang Qing counter-revolutionary cliques, engaged in activities that brought great disaster to the country and people, causing the most serious setbacks and most damaging losses to the country since the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Actually, there was a logjam as a consequence for the Present-Age Literature because of the Cultural Revolution which lasted for nearly 10 years. That era has long past and we now have a favorable turn on events and a great number of responsible writers deepening the literary forms and content. As the Chinese nation is a racial mix of Han people together with 56 other ethnic groups, literature reflects this variety. On the contrary, the various ethnic groups have contributed greatly in this field.

Modern China encapturlate political, economical, and cultural elements, that provide more freedom for better literature experience. Litraterie works such as poems, essays, fiction and drama in a broad spectrum of themes are quite popular. Media works such as newspapers, magazines, radio, and the Internet, all give writers a greater of literature scope for their exertions. Consequently, for their encouragement, there are literary prizes such as the Lu Xun Prize, Mao Dun Prize, Spring Prize, Feng Mu Prize, and Lao She Prize and more besides.

It is a new word to describe a new tendency of literature development. The Chinese literature has entered a new stage "She Century." Woman writers of all ages - from those born in the 1930s to those still in their twenties --have been active in the literary world and acted an important position in literary. Especially noteworthy are the works of woman writers in post-60s. Their writing characters whose appearance and values differ greatly from those of classical novels, which have created a unique cultural phenomenon in modern society.
