Lijiang is the junction of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet where the roads extend in all directions. In addition, many visitors will choose to fly to Lijiang through Kunming as these two cities are very close. Tourists can usually go to the attractions by foot because Lijiang is not a very large city. If you don't want to walk, it is also very convenient to take the city bus lines.

By air
Lijiang Airport is about 28 kilometres from the county centre, operating flights heading to Kunming, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen and Guiyang, etc. If there is no direct flight to Lijiang in your city, you can to go to Kunming City first, and then take a plane or bus to Lijiang, which only takes about 40 minutes flight time from Kunming Airport to Lijiang Airport. There are also airport shuttle buses which go back and forth between the airport and the county with the terminal station located in the ticket office of Yunnan Airlines. This bus route will pass one entrance to Lijiang City and you can also take bus NO.1 to the airport directly.
By train
Many visitors choose to take a train from Kunming to Lijiang or from Dali to Lijiang. The reason for the latter option is because it goes by "the most beautiful railway line", Dali Railway Line which departs from Dali East Station and end in Lijiang Town. Taking this line can not only get a close view of the Cang Shan Er Hai but also overlook the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
On August 18, 2011, the new Lijiang Railway Station will be officially put into use and at the same time the original station was converted into freight train station, it no longer just handles passenger service.
Traffic in the city
The traffic mode of Lijiang City is primarily bus and taxi.
Most buses are coach buses where the ticket prices varies according to the kilometers you travel. There are also some privately-owned buses parked in the crossroads leading the nearby attractions of Lijiang. In addition, you can also rent a bike which is not only friendly to the environment but also incredibly convenient.
