Hohhot Entertainment
Hohhot is the capital of the vast prairie; therefore we can say the Mongolians are living on the horseback which makes their entertainment activities filled with their own characteristics. Prevailing entertainment activities such as horse racing, wrestling, and archery are not only adventurous and exiting, but also pretty good for physical fitness.
Such activities can be found in the urban and suburban area of Hohhot, such as Inner Mongolia Racecourse which is located in Hulun North Road and Hohhot Sports Gentlemen's Club of which one is located in a stadium in the west of Xinhua Square and the other is located in the University Avenue. Inner Mongolia Racecourse is a comprehensive racecourse with the largest size as well as of the highest standard in China and it has become one of the world famous main racecourses where spectators can also watch the wonderful performances of Inner Mongolia Equestrian Team.
There are also some interesting local festivals in Hohhot.
Ulanmuchi Art Festival
Ulanmuchi is a kind of equesttrain art troupe which is very famous in Inner Mongolia. This festival is held every two years in Hohhot and during this festival, Ulanmuchi from every county of Hohhot will participate in. In addition, experts will also be organized for the appraisal to set ranking.
Sometimes Ulanmuchi Art Festival is held with the Inner Mongolia Prairie Tourism Festival and the Nadam Fair(Mongolia Games Festival) at the same time. These festivals not only cheer up the festive spirit, but also boost the prosperity of local tourism.
Zhaojun Culture Festival
The tomb of Wang Zhaojun, which is named as “Qing Zhong”, is located in the southern suburbs of Hohhot. This tomb is built to commemorate Wang Zhaojun’s outstanding contribution to promote national unity in the history. Hohhot Zhaojun Culture Festival aims to carry forward Zhaojun Culture, enhance national unity and boost economic development.
Zhaojun Culture Festival is held in July-August each year. This festival used to be knowned as Zhaojun Temple Fair in which a number of folk cultural activities are concentrated. After several years of development, Zhaojun Culture Festival has become a comprehensive festival activity with culture, economy, sports, and travel combined together. Every year during the Zhaojun Culture Festival, Hohhot will attract a large number of domestic and foreign tourists which makes it extremely vigorous.
In addition to the traditional entertainment activities, there are also many modern places of entertainment scattered in the avenues of the Hohhot City, such as pubs, tea bars and gyms. Recommended places of entertainment are Kangle Body Building, Changle Palace, Xishui Paradise, Blue Sunshine Bar, and Eight o'clock Music Café, etc.
