Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, has many natural views and places of cultural interest. Considered one of the Four Great Towers of China, Yellow Crane Tower stands on Sheshan (Snake Hill), at the bank of Yangtze River. The top of the tower has a broad view of the surroundings and the Yangtze River. In its modern version it has the appearance of an ancient tower but is built of modern materials and includes an elevator as it was rebuilt in 1981. There are at least two legends related to Yellow Crane Tower. In the first, an Immortal rode off on a yellow crane from Snake Hill. A tower was later built in his name. In the second, after becoming an Immortal, Fei would ride a yellow crane and often stop on Snake Hill to have a rest.
In Wuhan, you must taste four snacks: hot-and-dry noodles, doupi, steamed meat buns, and crock of chicken soup. Besides, steamed Wuchang fish, Chinese doughnuts, hutangfen are also highly recommended. Jiqingjie Street, a gourmet street, present you a passionate Wuhan.
People living in Wuhan get used to speaking loudly and fast. If you do not get it, you can ask them to repeat their words. Wuhan’s summer is extremely hot. If you go there in this season, do bring parasols and sun cream. If possible, please avoid going out at high temperature. The ferryboat in Wuhan is very interesting. You can admire scenery of two sides and night scenes of Wuhan. From the second half of March to the early days of April, cherry trees blossom. Wuhan University and East Lake Cherry Blossom Park are best places to admire flowers. Every year, a great many tourists go there.
The metropolitan area of Wuhan comprises three parts—Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, commonly called the “Three Towns of Wuhan”. Among them Hankou is the most prosperous part which can be called “shoppers’ paradise”. You can go to crowed Jianghanlu Road walking street or Hanzhengjie Street wholesale market.
