Yichang, called “Yiling” in ancient times, is located at the conjunction area of the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, meeting the borders of Chongqing, Hubei and Hunan provinces. Qu Yuan
Qu Yuan is regarded as the first author of verse in China. As a poet who lived during the Warring States Period in ancient China, he is famous for his contributions to the poetry collection known as the Chu-ci. Qu Yuan is also regarded as one of the most prominent figures of Romanticism in Chinese classical literature, and his masterpieces influenced some of the greatest Romanticist poets in Tang Dynasty such as Li Bai.
Wang Zhaojun
Wang Zhaojun, born in Hubei, is famed as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China and her story as a ‘political bride’ has handed down to generations. Zhaojun’s life became the household tale of "Zhaojun Departs the Frontier" (Zhaojun Chusai) in the history of the friendship and unity among Chinese nationalities as well as a popular subject in Chinese poetry, drama and novels.
The City of Drift
Numerous mountains and rivers in Yichang naturally contribute to the various drifting places, such as the fast flowing and thrilling high-speed drift in Gulong Xi, and slow and gentle drift in Jiuwan Xi with beautiful sceneries. There is also a breathtaking cruise along the majestic Yangtze River.
