Shopping in Jiuzhaigou Valley is a must for every traveler and the point of that is not to buy a costly gift but to but a simple souvenir.
In Jiuzhaigou Valley, you can buy the exclusive Qiang embroidery, Mao wen apple and Tibetan handicrafts. Precious medical herbs like fritillaria and musk abound in northwestern Sichuan which are also worth buying. You may try the local zanthoxylum and agaric as well. Remember, Tibetan knife (one of Tibetan handicraft) is not allowed to consign in the airport.
Qiang embroidery is always an attraction of the Qiang village. It represents the spiritual side of the valiant Qiang people, like the bright flowers blooming out of knifes and swords. As an exquisite work of the folk handicrafts of the Qiang people, Qiang embroidery enjoys wide popularity among Qiang people when it comes to dressing. Local women especially like to wear the Qiang embroidery from head to toe. The embroidery is made mainly of coarse cloth. They like to draw white lines on a black background and fill it with varied patterns. The resulting pieces are dazzlingly beautiful and embody delicate designs, making them elegantly fit for either dressing or decorating the rooms. One of the most intriguing handicrafts is the Boat-Shaped shoes (called Yunyun xie). They are man-wearing shoes inwrought with patterns of clouds, a perfect combination of idealism and realism.
Jiuzhaigou yak beef is selected from fine Yak beef in Jiuzhaigou Valley which is inscribed as a World Heritage site and paradise on earth. It’s made under high pressure and high temperature, according strictly to the green food manufacturing standards. The processing technique does not include dehydration, able to maintain the natural flavor of the yak beef. The beef is concocted into several fashionable tastes, all marked by being soft and delicious, and enjoyed by young and old. Also, aluminum foil used to wrap the beef makes it clean, portable and more importantly fresh.
Thousands of medical plants grow in Jiuzhaigou, the plant kingdoms. As one of the major origin of traditional Chinese medicine in Sichuan, Jiuzhaigou Valley is home to many medicinal herbs such as Chinese angelica root, astragalus root and gastrodia rhizome. Inhabitants there often use herbal remedies, which works effectively against many diseases.
