The Clock Hall in the Forbidden City
The clock hall exhibits the imperial family’s collection of clocks and timepieces. The mechanical clocks didn’t arrive in China until the early 1900s brought by the missionaries from Europe. Since then the imperial family of Qing dynasty had become an enthusiast of clock collections. The clocks or timepieces on exhibition are imported from Europe or made by Chinese craftsmen. These collections are not only timekeeping machines but also refined artworks. Some clock is ship model, some is a miniature of garden, and some can make funny movement or play music through exquisite mechanism.
