Tibet  develop tourism along two ancient routes

Tibet will boost its tourism sector by developing the ancient Tibet Road during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Tea-Horse Road in the next few years, according to the Tibet Autonomous Regional Tourism Bureau.

The ancient Tibet Road, with the Qinghai-Tibet Railway as the mainstay, links the north to the south, while the ancient Tea-Horse Road, focusing on the Sichuan-Tibet and Yunnan-Tibet highways, links the west to the east.

The two routes involve many world-famous tourist sites, including the Potala Palace, Mt. Qomolangma and the Yarlung Zangbo River.

Yu Yungui, a leading official of the bureau, said that Tibet will enhance regional infrastructure construction, improve the functions of tourism facilities and publicize the scenic spots along the two routes.

Tibet, known as the "roof of the world", boasts typical highland natural resources and distinctive cultural resources.
