Lhasa, capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region strives to build a cross-Himalaya tourist destination with neighboring countries including Nepal, India, Bhutan and so on in a bid to make Tibet a world class tourist attraction, sources from Lhasa Municipal Tourism Administration.

According to Jiang Hua, director of Lhasa Municipal Tourism Bureau, a decision was made on the Fifth Forum on Tibet Work to build Tibet into a "distinctive world class tourist destination" by promoting its tourist industry. As the captial city of Tibet, Lhasa enjoys a valuable opportunity for development in tourism.

Lhasa will promote its cooperation with Nepal, India and Bhutan on tourist destinations and activities, jointly build a cross-Himalayan tourist destination and put it into international market at the contracted price, Jianghua added.

In producing tourist products, Tibet will concentrate on the development of some famous tourist brands such as the Potala Palace, Barkor Street and so on. It will build 3 tourist areas on Level AAAAA, 10 on Level AAAA and 20 on Level AAA by the end of the "12th-Five Year Period".

Meanwhile, it will speed up the development of its traffic for tourism. Apart from the improvement of the international air route Lhasa-Katmandu, it will add more flights between Lhasa and India, and between Lhasa and Bhutan aimed to increase its international airlines up to three and at least ten each week.

Besides, Lhasa has actively carried out some related preferential policies such as the "visa on arrival" policy.
